About the Relle

Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand I was nearing my completion of the tried and true steps to becoming an adult. University? check! Job of 2 years? Check! Living independently away from home? Check! Ready for something more challenging and a whole lot bigger than Auckland, I moved to Berlin in April 2010. As a Kiwi, avoiding an OE is about as unlikely as Tom Cruise converting to sanity, although choosing Berlin made for a pretty bold move. Not being ready for adulthood and frightened by the multitude of friends marrying and contemplating children..it was time to gap. Armed with very little comprehension of the German language but a big yearning for all things unknown we set off on one big year adventure. I aim to provide insight into life on the other side and hopefully convince all those doubtful kids out there that you can conquer Berlin!

02 July 2010

I would like to enlighten you all on the coping mechanism involved with being booted in the nose by your opponent in a football match.  A step by step process follows:

  1. SHOCK:  Complete and utter shock, as though somebody has just kicked a football as hard as they could..straight into your face!
  2. ANGER:  Most express their anger by use of profanity, others express with loud screams and facial expressions.
  3. RECOGNITION:  Tears may indicate the recognition of pain associated with being booted in the nose by a football.  Tears may also indicate recognition of a bleeding nose and the need for future rhinoplasty.
  4. SURPRISE:  Over the referees decision to award a sympathetic free kick.
  5. ACCEPTANCE:  Accepting the sequence of events that led to a free kick and goal!!!!

So yes I feel as though I may return with a few bumps, bruises, strained muscles and perhaps a crooked nose after yesterday.  However, most importantly I will now know what I must do to be awarded free kicks from generous and sympathetic referees.

Enjoy the weekend kids!
